This in particular is just a small matter of time and the ways Lachesis likes to play with it. I'm alive because I haven't died yet. There are others who were a bit beyond that, even. She's fond of this one, so you'll run into it a lot. Get used to it.

The situation in general? Well, that's a bit more complicated. Lachesis is some kind of malevolent AI who pulls us from various timelines and universes for what I can only imagine is her own amusement. There'll be some familiar faces, more you could've never hoped to meet under normal circumstances.

Right, and there's just about nothing we can do to reverse the situation that's been discovered just yet, so the only option is making the best of it until she decides to send us back.
