What exactly makes a person dress up in a costume, call themselves something silly, and try and take on the world? Especially if you don't got powers, especially if you can just fall in with the rest of us folks.

I mean, I know why I did it, but I figure that was a special circumstance.

Is it? I'm real curious. And all the tourists I met back home were older'n me. Which may or may not be sayin' much.

I guess it largely depends. I mean, for me, it was some of that, and a lot of emulation. But I don't any two people would give the exact same answer.

The emulation thing, I can understand.

Some people- it's just hard not to look up to 'em.

Y'mean Steve? He's a huge sap that makes you feel like a sap for not believing in the sap stuff.

It's annoying.

Right. And that's why you wanted to be like him?

I dunno if I want to be like him, really. But I guess- I'd like to live up to his expectations, instead of living down to my own.

That seems noble in and of itself, if you ask me.

Maybe.

And I did ask you, but not that question.

You did, didn't you? Well, in the beginning, it was mostly because of my sister, I think. It's hard to remember exactly what I was thinking at the time, aside from wanting to be like her.

Yeah? I always wanted to be my dad, when I was little. I guess that's part of what got me into the whole mess, too.

It is a messy occupation, but is there anything else you can imagine yourself doing?

[deadthenred]

Depends how you mean it. I always figured I'd join the Army. Can't remember wanting to do anything else.

But I was a shopclerk for a bit.
