[The feed pops on to see Vivi sitting on the floor of his bedroom, the sunrise creeping through the window. The main source of light, however, is a pair of candles stuck in a cupcake, sitting on a plate in front of Vivi. He's wearing a pair of star pyjamas and his ever-present hat.]Happy birthday to me

You've been here longer than I have... can I ask you something?

I'm not exactly an expert in City life yet, but I'll give it my best shot. What's up?

Do ImPorts... die of old age here? Do they even age at all?

Most people haven't been here long enough to really age -- the Porter only started 'porting a couple of years ago, after all -- but I know there's a kid named Ruka, she's ... what, thirteen? Fourteen maybe? She told me she got here when she was eleven.
So people do age, which means they probably can die of old age if they get 'ported in late in life, or get stuck here long enough. Not sure what would happen then, though. Death doesn't seem to stick, here -- they might just come back.
[He doesn't add that they might die of old age again and come back, over and over. No point in creeping out the poor kid.]

So... what if a non-human ImPort gets a human body? Do they age at the normal rate of a human or do they age the way their normal body does? Because if I'm still ageing like a Black Mage, there's a really good chance that I'm going to... stop moving this year.
["Stop moving" is said with the same gravity that anyone else would say "die."]

-- How old are you, kid?

The only reason I'm this old is because I was the prototype Black Mage. The production ones stop moving about a year after they're produced, so they don't have as long as I do. I'll live longer than them, but it's still a very short time.
Unless I age like a normal human because I have a human body here. Then I've got a lot longer.

[A long pause.]
Are you telling me that you're ... that you were created, and your creators designed you to have a short lifespan? That's ... that's awful. I don't even know what to say.

I mean, I'm okay with the fact that I have a limited lifespan like everything else, but my worry is which lifespan I'm using here; a human lone, like my body, or my normal Black Mage one.

We'd have to look at telomere length, metabolic rate ... hmm, I bet Hank's run a few of these tests before...

Where can I go to get them done?

[[I need to talk to Hank McCoy's mun, sorry! Poke me if I don't get back to you in a couple days?]]

Oh! Heh, how silly of me. I'm Spider-Man, but Spidey works too. I've also been known to answer to "masked menace," but it's not my preference.
