I am told that mortals feed themselves stories so that, satiated, they may sleep.

I find that I am often fed the moral without the tale. 'Tis difficult to digest, that way.

Mayhap I could trouble thee for a story. One they tell in your lands, in low voices. One that held you safe through the night.

The morals are stupid because they simplify to much. There's no point to them, with or without the story.

I agree, morals are oft tragically simple.

But I should not say they lack a point.

Like what? You have to hear all about how some kid keeps crying wolf, or what have you, just to learn that lying repeatedly is annoying and stupid. Congratulations, what a point.

That is not the moral. The moral goes: lying repeatedly is "annoying and stupid" if one is not very skilled at it.

Of course. But they won't tell you that, because they just want you not to lie.

You'd think that, and yet there are all these people who take it at face value, and just decide that lies are always evil or whatever.

Then mayhap the other moral is that humans oft lack the subtlety to see beyond what they mean into the depths of what they say.
