[ The video feed is clicked on buttttt judging from the poor angle and what looks like the sidewalk being the focus, the owner of this communicator is clearly having trouble using it. A good thirty seconds pass before it picks up an English man talking and though he continues, it's not really directed to the Network. What is technology. ]

It's not a trick, sorry.

And the box is a communicator. You're connected to the rest of us in your situation through it.

Quite a few, actually. The thing that brought you in--the computer--grabs a lot of us, unfortunately.

( she gives a sort of sympathetic cluck. )

It's not impossible to get back--but it's also not something that you can chose to do. It's a bit complicated.

[ he sounds confused and exasperated all at once. this is information overload and he doesn't understand half the terms being used. ]

A come pewter...? [ wait, forget it. it's not that important, is it? ]

Where exactly am I? Where is this place, New York?

The world you're from must be very different from this one, right?

This city is actually called just that--The City. But it is very similar to a city called New York that exists in a lot of other worlds.

That's right. I've never seen buildings as tall as these.

I've never heard of a New York and... [ very tentatively: ] Other worlds?

That's right. Basically, there exist a great number of worlds. Some of them are similar to one another, others are very different.

Everyone brought here is from another world, though sometimes people from the same world as someone else shows up.

Many worlds?

[ PINGED by the possibility of someone showing up. ]

Then the others might be here.

Or many different versions of one reality. In any case, here is a place where they intersect.

Mm. If someone you know is here, they'll likely contact you through the communicator.

Does everyone show up in the same place when they're brought here?

As far as we know, yes. The Porter brings everyone in there.

...looking for someone in particular?

Yes.

[ he stops himself for a moment. it doesn't sound like this woman is from his world, so there's nothing harmful about mentioning oz. she doesn't know so nothing bad can come from this. ]

My master and his friends might be here.

If they are here, you'll find each other, like I said.

And if they aren't, you don't need to worry about them. When you get home, things will be just as you left them. Time seems to freeze back home.

[ and then just a groan, the camera pointed to the sidewalk again while he rubs his face with one hand. ]

None of this is making sense.

It's a lot to take in, I know. But there's free lodging for you at the MAC, until you get back on your feet, so you can just take things one step at a time.
