[ the video feed turns on as carol's comm clatters to the pavement. there's nothing but bricks to see, but there's the unmistakeable sounds of a fight in the background. after a few moments, there's a flash of light and a loud FWASH to accompany it. then, carol's voice. ]Woof! After the past few days, I can't tell if this is exactly what I needed

Though usually she comes closer than not. Still, no harm in double-checking, right? D'you know me as that annoying guy on the Reserve Avengers, that annoying guy who's somehow on the team when you're not, that annoying guy you're supposed to arrest, or that annoying guy you're stuck on a team with? And what does the name "Osborn" mean to you?

[There is the small issue of whether or not they've dated yet but ho boy is he never going to mention that willingly.]
Be good to have a few more people around the mansion when I visit. I've been wondering whether Bobbi hasn't been getting a bit lonely. I'm up in the MAC, still -- the apartment complex they give us.
[A sudden thought, and he encrypts the rest of their conversation.]
Oh, um. I don't know if you've met -- it doesn't look like you have -- there's another Spider-Woman here, but not our Spider-Woman. Except she kinda is, sorta?

I'm only one person, not a few more people, but you should definitely stop by the mansion sometime.
[ cue confused face. because that made no sense at all. ]
All I got out of that was there's a Spider-Woman here.

[Tugging unconsciously at the neck of his costume.]
Okay, so basically a bunch of people from a bunch of different universes have been getting dumped here, I'm sure you've gathered that much. Some home universes aren't, for our purposes, all that closely related -- incompatible timelines, people from different parts of history. Some folks aren't even from Earth, even though they're human (or not). Some are people we'd know from our own universe ... but as fictional characters instead of real people.
[Pause, then as an aside:] Just so you're aware, there are probably natives here who know you as a comic book character.
Then there are several universes which are really, really similar, down to having the same people in them ... but slightly different. More like the alternate universes we usually have to deal with, minus the usual evil counterpart shenanigans.
Anyway, the Spider-Woman here, she's ... the same Spider-Woman we're on a team with, but also kind of not. Not just because she's an alternate, but --
[Another ( ... )

part of that has to be a good thing, right? maybe other-jessica wasn't impersonated by the skrull queen. and that would be really good. but there's also that feeling of, oh god my best friend doesn't know me anymore and well. that sucks. that beyond sucks.
she sighs and runs a hand through her hair, not really sure what to think other than 'FML.' ]
Thanks for telling me. Do you know if she... if she knows her universe's me? [ not sure if want, but she can't help but ask. ]

I ... don't know. She's never mentioned a Carol or a Ms. Marvel, but that doesn't really mean anything.
[He feels a little guilty that it never occurred to him to ask, but then scientific inquiry beckons.]
It's strange because their timeline -- there are several others from hers -- doesn't really map to the standard Trousers of Time model in relation to ours. It's not just that there was one event that changed and everything there panned out differently; it's more like there are lots of little changes...
She's sort of half-Jess, half-someone else from our universe.
[Awkwardly.]
I don't know if you ever met him -- the Scarlet Spider. The first one, not the ones using Tony's suits.

[ but back to the matter at hand. she frowns a little as she thinks and wraps her head around all this. ]
I don't think I ever did. I take it that the other half-someone she shares a background with or whatever it is?
[ how do i shot alternate universe discussions ]

You've never read Pratchett and you call yourself a sci-fi/fantasy fan? Really?
[He sighs.]
Yeah, pretty much. I ... can't really say more unless she okays it.

[ she nods. ]
Alright. Thanks for what heads-up you can give.

But I have to say, I never really pegged you for a Pratchett fan.

You do have to admit that his sense of humor is pretty out there, though. And I have yet to meet anyone who laughed as hard as I did at Good Omens.
