[Yup, this hideous event has a hideous effect on Bella.]

The realization that I've been wrong my entire life isn't very pleasant. I admit that I've made mistakes...great and numerous. I've destroyed relationships, and I fear that they are beyond repair. But it's never too late to fix things, right? At least, I hope not.

[A hesitant pause.] .. ( Read more... )

You've gone from shrieking harridan to simpering simpleton?

I liked you better as a harridan.

[The differences between Snape and his evil(er) self are... not especially great, at the moment.]

Does it thrill you speaking so coarsely to a woman facing existential crisis? Do you feel important? If it does I'm sure you could find an actual whore to entertain your whims.

[A CHALLENGER APPEARS?]

Did you just apply 'existential crisis' too Bellatrix LeStrange?

What madness is this, then, that has you astride a great white steed and coming to her aid?

Far be it from me to judge why a person of even her repute should choose so sudden a turnaround, but... then, all the more repugnant she should be demonized. She's an acquaintance of mine, certainly no whore.

Her... repute?

[Instant suspicion.]

I've known her longer then you, sir knight. Though if you know her beloved Lord or her husband, you'd understand. She must have you quite confounded, otherwise. Perhaps Imperius? She does love it so.

But not like she loves cruciatus.

Her reputation. The one she's trying to overcome, now. My name is Norman Osborn. Call me that, would you. And I'm quite in my right mind.

Norman Osborn.

[He'll remember that, crazy with Black Mist or not.]

I'm afraid you've got some strange ideas about -- reputation. And those who know her... very, very well in this City.

I don't care. I've seen far too much mistreatment go allowed under the guise of something deserved to sit back and say nothing. What purpose does it serve besides a sense of self-superiority?

I hardly need to speak to Bellatrix to be assured of my superiority, Mr. Osborn.

But now I must confess a curiosity in your... investment in her.

But I'll remain skeptical. Because let's be honest, it doesn't take much wit or class to be able to insult a woman, now does it?

Maybe I'm just more of a gentleman. I don't speak of my investments in public.

I find your stress on her gender curious. Antiquated notions of women being the weaker sex... A strange idea, to be certain.

I believe you started it when you called her a whore.

If you're fool enough to think tat a man can't be a whore, certainly. But I suppose that it's a gendered enough term.

[Snape doesn't care about the whole she's-a-woman angle, really. It never really occurred to him, despite how easily the language did.]

No matter. She bores me, and you do as well. If you wish to defend her honor -- you'll be busy finding the scraps of it. I'm sure she has some left. Somewhere.

Good luck, Mr. Osborn. You'll need it.

Ah, plenty of honor you simply aren't privy to. You can keep your luck, however.
