I have had a lovely year, I am happy to say. In particular, the fireworks at the start of it were everything I had hoped they would be.

[YOU DONE GOOD CALENDAR]

[ he inclines his head slightly in recognition of the compliment ]

It was a magnificent beginning. I do think it went off well, even if the ending wasn't as satisfactory.

[ WELL AT LEAST THE NAZI LIKED IT wait ]

When it comes to such events, I have always found that it is the journey, not the destination, which matters. Don't trouble yourself about the ending, that's my advice.

I hope that you were well-dressed for the event in question, at any rate. [DID YOU LIKE THE TAILOR JULIAN]

Oh yes, my attire was quite satisfactory. I had a very excellent recommendation.

Is that so? Very good, very good. I am sure the source of the recommendation is quite pleased to have given it.

They should be. It added just the right amount of flair to make the event a bit more memorable.

Yes, memory is the key. To carve a mark in history with whatever ink is available. Fire, steel, blood, it doesn't matter. Without marks and memory, every date is just an empty box on a sheet of paper, isn't it?

Precisely. There is a meaning to a date, but to truly mark it, there has to be an event worthy enough to do so.

Haha, we understand each other better than I first imagined, Calendar Man! I'm quite pleased.

It seems we do.

Are you planning on marking any dates yourself any time soon, or are you merely observing for now?

Only observing, for the moment. When so much is happening, it is quite agreeable to be a mere spectator. Of course, there is nothing like getting some work done while watching.

That does sound familiar. Of course, one does get tired of being on the sidelines.

To be sure, the shadows can be cold and cloying, especially after a long stay. Yet an officer commands best from the rear, where he can properly survey the battlefield. And in such a position, patience is among the great virtues.

I assure you, patience is not something I lack. To wait for the proper time.

But. [ Thoughtful pause. ] Before I had none to command but myself. Now that it is different, perhaps I need to plan better tactics.

You have been truly gifted by the Porter in your ability. I strongly encourage you to adapt accordingly. Properly used, power like that could make sure that every day you experience is left with its proper mark.

But not every day deserves its touch. It has to be special.
