[terezi, meanwhile, is suffering from some serious dissonance. she's still got her unsheathed cane sword in one hand, covered in blue blood, and for the moment she really isn't sure why kanaya is attached to her like...well, they're anything more than casual friends.]

[she doesn't seem to know what to do with her arms--they're halfway around kanaya, barely touching her, because that seems like the thing to do, but she's holding them stiff.]

[ she's largely wrapped up in her own desire to hold terezi, but she wouldn't be much of a moirail if she didn't realize something was wrong. so she breaks the embrace and takes a step back, her hands still on the other girl's hips, but a deep concern on her face ]

[terezi mostly just looks confused, herself, but realization is slowly coming her way as memories resurface.

and of course, feelings are the first to return, which is why before the revelation of "oh right we're moirails" hits her she's shuffling awkwardly without extracting herself from kanaya's touch.]

how could she be so stupid this isn't even the same iteration of terezi either she doesn't remember anything and isn't her moirail and she's just made a complete fool of herself by just leaping into the situation she is the stupidest worst most selfish person ever why would she even do that

she tries to hide her shock, which isn't at all successful, and she's pale from all the embarrssment and shame and self-loathing and mortification, shining fiercely as she tries to catch up with the situation and tries not to cry ]

[ and that's just what she'll do. she'll bring terezi home and then she'll just lock herself and never come out until she just slowly dies of shame

[this time she returns the hug, though first she puts the cane sword away, not as unobtrusively as she would have liked.]

I'm sorry I worried you. [because kanaya seems to have been really upset!] But I was only gone for a few minutes, you know.

[ a shiver runs up her back as she realizes she hadn't really put on a coat before going. she was running off impulse before and regrets it a little now. if she'd taken the time to grab coats for the two of them, terezi's memories might had more time to settle

[she's not arguing with getting out of the cold, though, and follows kanaya through the portal, which thankfully leads to a roaring fire in the burrow's main living area.]
