[He's tapping on the desk. Tap. Tap. Tap. This goes on for a minute until he talks.]
I have lived a thousand lifetimes and have figured out almost everything.
[A tired-sounding sigh]
What does it matter if one person dies? Just one? Then it's a tragedy. A million deaths...how did the saying go? A statistic? A statistic. What does it matter if one person is born? It's a celebration. A million births...then you start to worry about the shitload of babies you have. It's all excess.
Excess. I had the right idea. I knew what I was doing, I knew the end results, it was the right thing to do. Sometimes the world needs excess.
Isn't that right, Carp? Peter? I know you would agree with me in the end, even if you were too idealistic, too fucking optimistic to see it now. I was right!
You both know I would make a marvelous leader.
[The following is muttered under his breath, barely audible.]
Ego sum deus
