[This lunch date was a long time coming, and honestly, it was really overdue. Not that he'd been avoiding taking Natasha out or anything, that wasn't the case at all. Matt liked to chalk it up to scheduling conflicts. He'd been pretty busy setting up his office and making sure he was sufficiently paying Gemma for her services, and Tasha... well, Tasha was doing whatever it was she did. Something about the Avengers or ballet probably. Matt wasn't entirely certain what she was up to, even though he was still living in her apartment.
That was probably why he'd been putting off sitting down and having a serious discussion with her. Or it would be the reason, if he were actually avoiding her. Which he wasn't.
Even now, as he sipped his ice water and considered what he wanted for lunch, he wasn't avoiding the topic. He was just a little reluctant to want to move out of her place. He liked it there. It was comfortable, and it was convenient, if not slightly awkward. But it was working, for the most part. He just really felt bad about mooching off of her for several months without actually paying her back, or covering her rent any. And things like that always made him feel a little uneasy. Matt didn't like to feel like he wasn't square. Repaying Natasha really was a top priority, whether or not she realized that was another issue entirely.
The first step in paying her back was finally taking her out to lunch. She'd mentioned she liked this place months ago. That he was only now managing to take her probably didn't speak too well for him, but he figured he'd maybe score a bonus point or two, and at least maybe she wouldn't be so obviously disappointed in him.]
