Sitting on a gumdrop, licking chocolate off her fingers, was Luna. Who seemed unsurprised to see a strange child with a stomachache.

"Are you all right? You really should pace yourself, you know."

The boy slowly got to his feet, looking woozy. The back of his jacket was sticky.

"I can't pace myself!" He protested. "This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I need to strike while the candy is sweet! You know, carp the M&M."

Luna had the presence of mind to look slightly concerned as she watched him get to his feet.

"I wouldn't do that. Carp would taste terrible with sweets." She shook her head. "Besides, it doesn't appear to be melting, so I think you still have your chance."

Calvin looked over his shoulder to frown at his jacket, then turned back to frowning at Luna. "I'm not talking about the fish! It's a classical Greek reference, I'm not surprised you've never heard of it. 'Carp' means, um," he paused to very obviously make something up on the spot. The sugar helped his mind work faster, if not better. "To catch or grab something! Like catching a fish, you know."

"Catch the fish?" Luna wondered aloud. "Or the candy, in this case. Is that a Muggle saying?"

She looked thoughtful as she licked off the last of the chocolate, oblivious to the stain it left around her mouth. "I suppose you have a point, this is a unique opportunity, but if you get a stomach that will decrease your enjoyment."

"That's the idea!" Calvin said, desperately ignoring all stomach-related words and thoughts for the sake of his health. "I don't know if it's just a Muggle saying, but-" His eyes widened a bit. "Hey, does that mean you're one of those wizard people?"

Smiling, she pulled out the wand hiding behind her ear. "Witch may be slightly more accurate, but more or less, yes." Then she frowned a bit. "I'm not sure I should tell you that, though."

"Why not?" Calvin asked. Talking about magic was a welcome distraction from feeling like his intestines were transmogrifying themselves into eels. "Nobody else has made a secret about the whole magic thing. Loads of people around here are magic!"

"Yeah, the Porter loves magicians," Calvin said, glad his memory wasn't going to be magically erased for the sake of wizard security or anything like that. "Um, let's see, there's you, Mister Lupin from the Institute, that Weasel guy, the guy who gave me a magic stag figure..." He racked his brains for a moment, terrible with names and people in general. "There's also Josh, he's one of the big kids at school."
