Damian is out for a walk when he encounters Digby, stepping back from the dog and looking down at him with a decidedly belligerent expression. When he spots Ned, he gives him a scathing look.

"As you should be." His tone is nothing short of disdainful, and he lets out a scoffing sigh. "At least you can control the beast." His manner was haughty, but Damian was looking down at the dog as though he'd like to pet him--an inclination he would stringently deny if it was remarked upon.

Damian shrugs and slips the phone back into his pocket. After the introduction, he stares at Ned for a moment, before he just blinks. "...Damian."

"It's nice to meet you, Damian." He fumbled over a polite way to ask if Damian would help him further, but comes up empty. "How long have you been in the City?"

He just nods, and then shrugs again. "A few months. Longer than some, not as long as others. You?" The question is asked with almost automatically, as if he knows it's expected to reciprocate but doesn't really care much one way or the other.

He's walking down the street now, and sort of motions at Ned to follow. "So what's your specialty? What kind of pie do you make best?" Again, a casual air, but Damian's actually more interested in this part. A pie shop would be a type of business, after all.

Oh, that's a relief. He doesn't have to ask, just follow. Digby and Ned trot obediently after Damian, and the latter shrugs. "Less than three days."

A beat and then he almost laughs, the question startling him into it. "I'm not sure I have one, though if you mean savory or sweet I only make fruit pies in the Pie Hole. I'm a pie purist."

He's walking along rather purposefully--eventually they'll make it to one of the vacant corner stores. "Oh. You're entirely green." His tone makes this fact seem like a criticism.

"Sweet is best," Damian agrees. This is totally not a nod to the fact that he has been stalking a local cupcake bakery. Not at all. "But you must be pretty good at it, right?"

"I suppose I am." Despite the tone, Ned doesn't take it as criticism, and takes the opportunity to smile a little in response. "Green, though my customers would say I'm good at it too.

"When I open you can judge for yourself."

Another nod--Ned must be doing something right, because he's keeping Damian's attention. "I intend to. Most places that serve pie in the city are atrocious." He has staked out every bakery. He knows.

"I hope to solve said atrocity, with simple comfort. In a place like this where everything and everyone is new and different, it couldn't hurt to have a little piece of home." Ned felt that way even in his own city, but it seemed to go double for here.

"That seems overly sentimental." But he doesn't dislike the idea of it.

"How could pie not be sentimental? It's the ultimate comfort food." He intends to win you over Damian, just give it up already.

No, he will never give it up. Never. "Well, if you need food to be a comfort, then I suppose you're a naturally sentimental creature."

"I prefer comforting others. If that makes me sentimental then... so be it."

"You're really weird, you know that, right?" Says the grumpy assassin child.

That startles a laugh out of him, a few parts nerves, but some amusement is there too. "I do know."
