FRIDAY; on second thought we can have our cake and eat it too incywincyhero August 28 2011, 19:15:43 UTC
Taking full advantage of his flexible work schedule, Peter worked through his lunch hour and then dropped by the magazine offices after grabbing a sandwich. A sandwich he half-regretted as soon as he walked through the door and took a look at the spread on offer. Never one to turn down free grub, and seeing that everyone in the office so far looked to be busy, he wandered over to the nearest table and grabbed a canapé. Chewing it slowly, he took a good look around, silently whistling in admiration. No one could say that a lot of time, money and effort hadn't been sunk into this project already. Whether that was a good sign or a bad one remained to be seen.

It had been a busy few days, and despite Donna’s attempts to keep an eye on the door and watch who was coming and going, a few people were bound to make it past her. Which was why it took her about ten minutes to notice Peter, and another five or so to disentangle herself from the conversation she was having and make her way towards him. She approached with a wave and a smile.

“Hey there. How can I help you?”

Peter swallowed the last bit of toast and turned around, brushing his hand off on his slacks -- and promptly almost choked. He'd seen Donna Troy in video posts on the network, of course, but none of them had conveyed a tenth of her ... well, beauty, obviously, but also her presence. She sparkled, both figuratively and literally.

Just so long as I don't turn out to be the Bella Swan in this equation, he thought, somewhat irrelevantly.

"Sorry," Peter said, chuckling weakly. "You, ah, startled me." He coughed one last time into his fist, then offered his other, clean one for a handshake. "Peter Parker. I was ... referred here?"

Unaware of any references to sparkling vampires harkening from literature of questionable quality, Donna just nodded, her smile a bit apologetic. “Sorry about that. And of course. I’m glad you made it, Peter.”

She shook his hand, then sat down opposite him. “So, in case you hadn’t guessed, I’m Donna. And I hope we make it worth your while to be away from the lab.” She said the last bit half-teasingly, eager to put him at ease.

"Heh." He rubbed at the back of his neck, a show of geeky self-consciousness that wasn't as much a put-on as he would've liked. "Well, Spidey seemed to think you'd be able to persuade me."

"His good opinion of me is really quite endearing," she admitted, a blush just barely visible on her cheeks. It was nice to be well-regarded. "And I've been told I can be quite persuasive. But basically what I'm going to say is that I've heard a lot about you, and it would really make me happy if you would want to help out."

Endearing? Peter forcibly reminded himself that first of all, she just meant she found it flattering that Spidey seemed to have confidence in her, nothing more; and secondly, her opinion on Spider-Man had minimal bearing on her opinion of Peter Parker, and -- dear God, how did he constantly get himself into these kinds of situations? Not that this was any kind of situation at all, so get a grip, Parker"Well," he started again, "it's hard to argue with that kind of proposi -- with that kind of approach ( ... )

“See, I can understand why the punching first is such a priority,” Donna replied, “but that hardly helps us out, does it?” Her lips curled inwards in a slight smirk before she continued, “Basically, it seems that there’s a big section of town that doesn’t seem to like imPorts very much. And I thought if we could showcase the good they do-you know, get a few shots of them taking down some thugs, run a spread of someone saving a group of kids or something-then public opinion might be a bit more tolerant.”

Donna paused after that, realizing she was rambling a bit. It was hard to stop herself once she got an idea in her head; her mind just kept running with it. Embarrassed a bit, she gave Peter a conspiratory look.

“But the thing is, staging things like that has never really sat well with me. And I know it’s happening out there in the City, I’ve seen it. So basically what I need is someone who has a good eye and get me shots like that ( ... )

Peter nodded. "I can definitely go with that. Only --" He hesitated, unsure quite how to put this in a way that wouldn't make him look like either a sleazebag or a fraud. Which was difficult because in some ways he was a fraud, however necessary the reasons.

"I should tell you, I got my rep for action shots of Spider-Man because he's always kept me informed. Nothing staged," he added hastily, and boy he wished that had always been the case, "he just lets me know what he's up to. I do take plenty of photos of other heroes, of course, but I just don't have that kind of long-standing relationship with them..."

"Hey, if you can get me some great shots of him, I certainly won't complain. He seems more than a little popular, around here." She actually found it refreshing, in a way; he seemed so normal in conversation, at least comparatively. She likes to know that were heroes like that out there.

"Yeah, apparently in this universe he's some kind of pop culture star -- it's going to his head." He rolled his eyes on cue, though he didn't actually seem all that annoyed.

"Nothing wrong with enjoying the moment. Especially in that line of work, when they're sometimes hard to find."

His lips quirked. "Oh, Spidey and I are all about enjoying the moment."

Wait, was that a weird thing to say? That was probably weird, wasn't it. Damnit, Parker.

"You too seem to have a lot in common." Just a hint of a smirk. She's thinking of them along the lines of the Titans, with their incredibly intimate friendships.
