Donna's day had been more than a little busy--between setting things up at her new office and helping along those she decided needed it, she was exhausted. However, there was one more thing she was determined to do, because she had promised and she honestly felt like talking to someone tonight. And of all the new people she'd met here, she'd found Garion one of the easiest to talk to.

Dressed casually, she walked into the bar and looked around for him. When she spotted him, she waved enthusiastically, something of a trademark of hers.

He looked up from his ale and gave her a smile, holding his hand up to usher her over. She'd probably never know how relieved he was to see her.

"Donna! Hello. Can I get something for you? It's on the house until I'm off shift."

It takes her a moment to cross over to him, but in the next she's sitting beside him with a grin. "It's nice to finally meet you in person. And, ah, whatever you're having, I suppose!"

"Just a basic lager," he admitted as he looked to the bar. He stood, which put him a head above most of those in the pub, and returned a moment later with a large mug full.

"Thank you for coming."

She gripped the mug and just nodded. "Of course. Someone's got to keep an eye on you."

He laughed at that as he settled back in his seat.

"You sound like my Aunt. And that's nothing like an insult, just in case you know."

"I've been compared to people's mothers long enough to be used to it. I actually think I rather like the comparison."

"She's someone worth being like," he said with a little smile.

"I'm on break for a little while longer, but then I'm practically off after that. Would you care to share a meal while you're here? The food's not bad."

"I'd love that, actually. It's no fun going home to an empty apartment and eating alone, anyhow."

He held up a hand and reached over to grab a menu for her.

"Anything fried is a good bet."

He folded his hands on the table in front of him.

"I hope your day has gone well?"

He tried to think of something less, well... generic. Pleasantries were something he hadn't really had to deal with for ages, at least not quite like this. It was best if he stretched his legs a little.

He asked in his own mind if that was so, if he'd guessed right.

There was still no answer.

"I guess I'll have some of that, then," she said brightly, pointing at a few of the--fried--items on the menu. She sat up a bit straighter, crossing her legs at the ankle and turning to look at him. "My day's been good. Busy, but good. Sometimes I still take wrong turns, because I think I'm in the version of this city that exists in my world. It's...unsettling, sometimes."

He put in the order with one of the girls who waited tables and leaned back in his chair.

"So you're used to this kind of place? Did you live in that other city?"

"Cities like this? Sure. Back home, I went to school there, in New York. Haven't actually lived there for awhile, but old habits die hard, or so they say." She pauses for a moment, thoughtful. "But as much as this world may be like mine, sometimes things happen and make it glaringly obvious that they aren't the same."

He raised an eyebrow in question.

"I can't imagine that. But I almost think it'd be worse."

"Well, there are good and bad points. It's good that I'm in a society relatively like mine, and I don't have to relearn the everyday things. It's bad that if I go to the street my friends live on, they won't be there." She shakes her head, breaking off. "But here I am doing all the talking. I want to know how you've been doing."

He spread his hands.

"As well as I could be, considering. I can't say I'm happy to be here, but it's certainly an experience. I just like to think there's a purpose to it all and I hope I get to see what it is eventually. Otherwise, I do my job and I go back to my apartment and try to learn about this place."
