OPEN and super-late

[ kanaya reluctantly pulled herself away from tank's party to make it back here. she made a promise, and she wasn't going to back away from it. so she was working fervently in the kitchen, working up a storm and trying to get everything cooked and ready.

at short times she'd feel confident enough to test her abilities at moving things, snatching the threads of various ingredients and reeling them in carefully so they don't make a mess. she'd dropped a knife in the wall while doing this earlier, but contented herself with the fact that no one saw her do it, and resolved to cover the mark until she was given opportunity to respackle it.

she really only ventured out of the kitchen to drop off finished dishes, but made sure she was always free to be interrupted when she did so ]

[ she narrows her eyes. this would be an opportune time for some kind of passive-aggressive response, she suspects, aside from the fact that she requested such a continued interaction in the first place. it wouldn't make her look her, just wishy-washy and flaky. rose never would've had this problem ]

I could consult my schedule and allot you an appropriate window. [ she already had a potential spot when she asked. that's passive-aggressive enough...right? ] IS there a certain amount of time I should expect any given session to last?

[ Well, there goes the smile. There's a little twist of annoyance and Carrie pauses, trying to figure out how best to handle this. If there's ego getting in the way here, Kanaya won't be learning much from her. But if it's just plain dislike, then-- well, why would she ask for training in the first place? If it's disinterest, then there's no real point in giving lessons at all. ]

Sure. [ She has her tentative answer in just a second, and hopes it's the right approach. ] 13 hours, to start. We'll see if it's gotta be longer or no.

[ wow, she hadn't expected anything that long. was redbird being sarcastic? if she isn't, kanaya couldn't exactly turn her down immediately, it would make her look uncommitted, flaky, incapable of handling the lesson.

the apprehension with that answer isn't terribly hidden, as her eyebrows have knit together and her pursed lips have started dipping into a frown. perhaps she can work towards a compromise as this progresses ]

I...may be willing of working within those requirements.

[ and immediately she feels a little guilty for saying it. sure, everyone's been telling her to take some time for herself, but that much seems a bit excessive ]

[ She gauges the reaction carefully, a little pleased by it. True, that had been about the length of the training sessions with Miho, but it's not really a fate she'd inflict on anyone that wasn't prove as serious about it as she is. ]

May be willing? I'm gonna need a definite answer, if you're interested.

[ damn you carrie for being so much better at this than she is, she pouts as she starts glowing with frustration ]

I would, in fact, consider myself willing, but it remains a considerable commitment that would rob me of other duties, should the requested level be a regular expectation.

And I-- [ her eyes widen and she lets out an exasperated huff. as she does, she grows brighter, her cheeks redder ]

I was hoping it may be possible to arrange a compromise.

[ A smile, finally, but just a small one. ]

Could be it is. How long're you looking for?

[ she hates that stupid smile and glowers at it ]

Something more along the lines of three hours per session. Perhaps four would be allowable.

Five. [ A tone that doesn't sound up to arguing, which is a pretty big stretch from her usual easy-going ones.

It's no 13 hours, but if Kanaya's serious about wanting to learn, it will do. ]

And how may such sessions would be necessary in a week?

[ Man, again with the disagreeability. Consider Carrie just... bewildered. ]

Depends. How bad you wanna learn?

That isn't the only issue worth considering in this situation, I have other obligations this must be balanced with. [ she pauses to consider, breaking her glare as she does ]

Would two be sufficient?

[ She considers that, then nods. But almost immediately adds: ] If. You can keep from looking at me like I just killed your dog the whole time.

[ kanaya meets that by casting her already averted gaze downward, blushing fiercely and feeling stupid ]
