ACTIVITY RULES:
Every character played in
capeandcowl is expected to meet a monthly activity quota. During the first week of the following month, the moderators will tally every active character's posts in the previous month to determine activity levels. You will be warned once in the OOC community if your character fails to meet the requirements for activity, and will then dropped automatically if they miss a second activity check in a row. Continued abuse of this system, or activity that is extremely spotty at best, may also result in your character being dropped, though this is very rare and we are much more lenient on the latter.
Should your character be dropped for failing activity, you may reapply for that character if you wish.
All characters played in Cape&Cowl are required to meet our current activity requirements. The exceptions to this are,
(A) the character in question is a new character entering the game on or after the 15th of that month;
(B) the player is involved in unforeseen circumstances and/or emergencies, and subsequently discusses such with a moderator;
or (C) a character is on full hiatus, detailed below, for one week or longer.
WHAT ARE ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS?
The standard requirements for activity in C&C are any TWO of the following:
- Posting an entry in capeandcowl ("Main Comm")
- Posting an entry in capeandcowllogs ("Logs Comm")
- Participation in a different character's entry in Logs Comm
- Participation in a continuous comment thread in a different character's entry on Main Comm, between two characters, and the thread itself contains no fewer than fifteen total comments.
Should more than two characters be involved in the thread in question, this comment minimum will increase accordingly.
Any combination of these four will count, including repetitions of any one item. E.G., Activity can be met with two posts to the Main Comm, through playing in one entry in Logs Comm and one 15+ comment thread in Main Comm, or any other combination of these four items.
Since a given character can make one post to
capeandcowl, and multiple posts to
capeandcowllogs in a single 24-hour period, a month's activity requirements can often be fulfilled in less time than it takes to watch a single feature-length film.
During the activity check, moderators tally main community entries and log entries labeled with that character's appropriate tag. If a character fails to meet activity standards based on these requirements, but can prove to have met activity through comment threads or accidentally untagged posts, that player must provide links to the threads/entries in question to that month's activity post no later than the 10th of the following month. (E.G., records for September's Activity Check must be turned in no later than October 10th.)
THE HIATUS AND YOU:
Aside from emergencies, the only way to prevent a character from being required to meet that month's activity requirements is to place that character on full hiatus for no fewer than seven consecutive days in that month. If the hiatus in question straddles two months or more, seven consecutive days of the hiatus must sit in a single month to excuse the character from that month's activity check.
In order to declare a hiatus, a player must report to
the official Hiatus Post, wherein they will declare which characters will be going on hiatus, and for how long. Players are also expected to make a post to
capeandcowlooc, explaining which characters will be gone, for how long, and what permissions or actions other characters can make in regards to those on hiatus, if any. At the end of the hiatus, the player is expected to return to the Hiatus post and declare the hiatus over, as well as make a "returning" post in OOC.
FULL HIATUS VERSUS SEMI-HIATUS: WHICH ONE IS RIGHT FOR ME?
A "full hiatus" is little to no activity in either
capeandcowl or
capeandcowllogs: little to no new posts, little to no participation on other players' entries, little to no activity in the logs community. A full hiatus has no official bearing on how active a player may be on OOC channels, though players will often state whether or not they will be present. A full hiatus of seven days or more also exempts a character from the activity check. Currently, the maximum length of a single hiatus per character is capped at two consecutive months. Should a player need to make arrangements for an absence longer than this, or later need to extend such a hiatus past this limit, they will need to speak to a moderator.
A "semi-hiatus" is an informal declaration. While many players report semi-hiatuses to the official Hiatus post, this is not necessary. A semi-hiatus is a declaration that a given character will be "less active" in the game, but still have presence. A character that is on semi-hiatus may be unavailable during certain hours of the day, or only be active on one community, or take a longer time to reply to threads and entries. The connotation of this varies from player to player. However, because a semi-hiatus is still an inherent promise to participate in-game, declaring a semi-hiatus does not excuse a character from the activity requirements.
Should a "semi-hiatus" later escalate into a "full hiatus," a player should clarify this by returning to the Hiatus post, speaking with a moderator, or both.
FAILED AN ACTIVITY CHECK; NOW WHAT?
In the case where your character failed activity requirements for a month, don't fret too much! You still have the chance to save your character from being dropped. If you've declared to keep your character after the warning, your character will have to meet some modified, more stringent requirements.
In order for a character on Activity Warning Status to be saved from dropping, and be returned to standard requirements, that character must achieve a total combination of THREE of the following:
Again, duplicate uses of any one of these items is permissible.
Please note!: activity via comment threads in Main Comm does NOT count towards activity for a character in warning status. A character that has failed an activity check will still be required to meet these standards regardless if they are put on full hiatus for the month in question.
If a character meets the Activity Warning Status' heightened requirements, that character will be returned to standard requirements. If a character fails to meet the heightened requirements, they will be automatically dropped from the game.
IN SHORT:
- Activity is two posts per month, though really long threads count, too.
- Fail one month, and the post number goes up to three the next month (but really long threads don't count anymore).
- Character is exempt from activity if on full (not semi-) hiatus for one week.
- Character that fails an activity check one month, and then goes on a week-long hiatus the next month, will still have to meet activity.
