When the light in Clark's living room came on, Batman was there.
Only it wasn't Batman, he realized after only a moment. It was Bruce.
It was Bruce with the bat-suit on and the cowl clenched tightly in his fists, his expression as unreadable as ever.
And though the man's face divulged nothing, Clark could tell from the compulsive way his hands tightened and slackened on his cowl that he was nervous. Or agitated. The latter was more probable, come to think of it.
"I know you said you don't want any Superman rescues in Gotham, but I was flying overhead, and it was just one mugging. I couldn't--"
Bruce cut him off with no more than an upturn of the corners of his mouth. It wasn't quite something that could be classified as a smile, and it certainly didn't reach his eyes. "That's not why I'm here."
"Oh." Clark raised his eyebrows and waited for the man to continue, but a slightly awkward silence fell over the room instead. "What, uh... whatare you ( ... )
