Minor Rant

One of the annoying things about writing fanfiction is that you can never really own your characters. I mean, you can have them in your head for weeks or months, adding subtlety and depth to their personalities, deciding how they must have grown and evolved, and generally playing god with them. Then the real author can come in and mess it all up in

Ah, yes, the lure of pre-made characters...it's so much work to make up your own. I mean, we all don't have the years that Jo has put in! ;)

She does such a good job of making rich, compelling characters too. I like to think that by really getting to know hers, I'm learning something that would help me make my own good characters someday. And to come up with a world and rules and culture and everything - yeah, I'm way too lazy. Hopefully someday...

Keep at it. It doesn't happen overnight...you can just add a little every so often. :)

Lol! I understand the frustration - though I have never been in a position to be narked with an author for ruining my fanfic plans before! This is actually a first for me!

Well....I think I may when I start writing the M&M sequel. But I think, like you, I will be able to find a way to make it work. :)

Darn authors ruining fanfiction! I was actually quite relieved by the DH implications for my fanfic. I'm hoping that a few Snape mourners might read it when F&B comes back.

Hon, there are SO MANY THINGS about DH that have me scratching my head. Really, isn't it tempting to regard DH as AU and write your own "canon"? ;)
