Steve/Tony (or Gen) Age Gap Shenanigans? anonymous July 30 2011, 15:06:58 UTC
So based on the movies, I think it's fair to say Steve is in his mid-20s, and Tony in his early-40s. I would really love to see something dealing with that, or with Steve being simultaneously older and younger than Tony... Pwetty pwease? :3 (offers van filled with candy)

Except that movie!Tony is not 40 yet and Steve can be in his 30's because he could have have been defrosted some years before 2012 like some people said.

In the movie Fury says he was frozen for almost 70 years, so it's got to be at least 2010 when they defrost him.

Steve's birthday is listed as July 4, 1918 in the movie. That would make him 27 if he went down in 1945.

Few things in life made Tony Stark feel his age. Thirty-nine to forty and his life was leaps and bounds ahead of when he was thirty, of when he was twenty, and that was including the nasty, inescapable fact that he'd been -- in all actuality, no exaggeration needed -- dying for a little while there. Not only was he not killing people through oblivious inaction, he was saving them. He was fighting the good fight. At forty-two, he was an honest to God superhero, on a superhero team.

How many guys could say that?

So, no, aside from Pepper telling him to act his age (which he ignored, because that sounded boring), his birthday (which he didn't, because parties, especially his, were anything but boring), or showing someone half his age just what he could do (really, really, really not boring), Tony didn't bother acknowledging his age ( ... )

A/N: Hopefully, I've got this right, now.

Captain America was punctual. At seven o'clock sharp, he was knocking on Tony's door. Tony wasn't punctual, ever. So, when he answered it, he was only half in his suit, ignoring Pepper as she doggedly followed him with a pair of cuff links, his watch, and an assortment of ties.

"Oh, hey, you're here. Sorry, we're havin' a bit of a wardrobe malfunction and--"

Whatever Tony had been about to say died somewhere between his brain and mouth, which had suddenly gone very, very dry.

In full 1940s, olive drab service dress, medals on display and shoes polished to a high-gloss, Cap looked every inch the proud returning soldier. He was standing at attention, one hand behind his back, as though waiting for inspection. Unable to stop himself, Tony reached out to touch one of the shiny brass buttons on his coat.

"See?" Pepper gave Cap a fond, appreciative glance. "He looks nice. Now take off those ridiculous socks."

Tony pulled his hand back before it could make contact. "They're awesome socks."

Frowning, Tony stepped away from her toward Cap. Male solidarity. He also wanted another shot at those brass buttons. "You work for me, remember?"

"Not today, I don't. It's my day off."

"Then why are you here?" Tony demanded.

Pepper smiled sweetly as she gathered her coat and phone. "To make sure you don't screw this up."

She walked over, closing the distance he'd put between them, but instead of fiddling with his clothes again, she locked eyes with him, very calm, very serious.

Tony's stomach sank to somewhere around his knees. He knew that look. It was the one she'd worn when she'd told him that she couldn't do this anymore. This being their relationship. Tony braced himself; he didn't think you could dump someone twice.

"Break his heart and they will never find your body."

"I'm sorry, it's--" Tony paused when what Pepper had said finally filtered in. Paused and stared. "Hey. Hey." Incredulous, he swung his arm in Cap's general-ish direction. "His heart? Aren't you supposed to warn him off breaking mine? Pretty sure I'm the girl ( ... )

Perfection. Absolute perfection. I love the image of a shy, proper Cap and stern Pepper.

xDD Well, I suppose its best that Steve realize early on that Pepper runs Tony's life with an iron fist.

Poor Tony, for once he's the one being chased and wooed - wonder how he'll handle that.
