You just reinforced for me exactly WHY I enjoy being a Resource English teacher. My kids (I've already adopted them) are SMART and CAPABLE, but have something that interferes with their ability to perform particular tasks in particular settings.
I feel that one important way I can grow as a teacher is to learn more ways of developing both lesson plans and creating classroom environments that show off their varying intelligences.
It's hard, because I'm human and have my own way of learning that's comfortable. I tend to teach that way. So, in turn, only reach those kids who learn like I learn.
I can't wait to go back in August and try out some of my ideas.
Me too. I mean, about getting so focused on particular little subtasks that I forget to look at the big picture and don't notice external things that I probably should be aware of. I also find parties and such difficult. Although I think that's more because of getting bored. Even people I normally find very interesting seem less interesting at parties. Maybe because the conversations tend to get "shallower" to accomodate a wider variety of people?
It's also very difficult when you've found a good book, or an interesting website and little children need your attention. I've thought about getting diagnosed and even mentioned it to my ex, back when we were married, but he ... well, I won't go into that. Lets just say I didn't have the support I would have needed for that to be very productive.
Anyhow, I'm glad you found something in this knowledge that helps you. I'll be curious to see what more you find out.
