But is he 11 or 12?

For the couple of you that read this and watch Doctor Who (assuming you've not heard already, which is super-unlikely):

that would be interesting combo. Arthur Who. I'd watch that. I'd nominate the black guy from the impossible planet, who was also in tennant's casanova.

Ooh, he'd be an interesting Doctor. I actually also think "Doctor Moon" in the Library episodes this season would be pretty awesome, too.
Of course, Eddie Izzard had been rumored to be up for the part way back in 2004 when the show was first being revived. That would be interesting, but I think he'd be more fun as a villain, perhaps another incarnation of The Master if they can't bring John Simm back. Had the latter not already been the Master, I bet his Doctor would've been fascinating.
Simon Pegg was also rumored to be up for it once upon a time. When asked recently in an interview if he'd ever accept the part, he claimed he couldn't. "My head might explode." That and he said as a fan, he wasn't sure he'd want to tune in to the show every week and have it just be him. Still, I'd watch if he took over. Of course, instead of Arthur Who, we'd then have Scotty Who.

If Ian McKellen can be Gandalf and Magneto at the same time, Martin Freeman can be Arthur Dent and Doctor Who (though are we really expecting to see another Hitchhiker movie?).

Well, not so much expecting another movie as it would just be almost meta, especially since the Doctor has mentioned Arthur Dent almost as if the two've met. That's due to Adams' history with the program, tho, and probably mostly a joke.
But, yeah, I do think Freeman would be awesome.

John Noble's British, right?

Watch Fringe. He'd be a great older Doctor.

If they want a Byronic hero, they could always dig up Timothy Dalton. He's still doing things, right?

Dalton is realtively active; I think he's more stage-oriented, these days, but don't quote me. Thing is, hasn't been a Doctor who started the job over the age of forty-something since Pertwee back in 1970. While I don't think they're likely to ever again go as young as Davison (who was only 30 when he came on board), I don't see them going over 45, tops, esepcially to replace the 37-year-old Tennant. If they really wanted an older Doctor, I feel like they'd have to get someone only slightly older now, hope he lasts a while and ages poorly, and then it won't seem as odd if he regenerates into someone older.

Pertwee was 50-something ;)

That's what I meant; he was the last time anyone started the job over the age of forty-something, him being in his 50s. Then Tom Baker was 40-something (40 even, actually, I think), and I've no idea how old Colin Baker, McCoy, and McGann were.
