In the heart of the M.S. Elegante, there was a room. It was a large, simple room, clean and clear of clutter. Standing just behind and to the right of the captain, Meifeng stood to attention. Rather than her typical attire of leather and bright warpaint, she was clothed in a sharp navy suit with a mandarin collar, the same uniform Kage had once worn.

She said nothing, though she did glance towards Gambler expectantly.

Tongue sticking out from the side of his mouth, fingers entangled in bright blue string, Gambler slowly slipped his thumb beneath one strand, then triumphantly pulled it aside to create ... another tangle. He looked very pleased with himself until Redd spoke.

"Huh?" He blinked dozily at the two of them. "Um ..."

Suddenly he sat bolt upright.

"Found him."

Scrambling to his feet, he shook his hands free of the string, then vanished.

Redd sat up a bit straighter and looked to Meifeng. Just as quickly, he looked away, back into the darkness with his jaw clenched.

Nothing happened.

He sat there, absentmindedly scratching an itch on the back of his hand, but his eyes were trained ahead with willful intensity.

Redd's breathing grew quiet, ears straining for the first noise that came from neither himself or the First Mate.

The silence was deafening.

Shadows twitched out of the corner of her eye, and Meifeng's head turned sharply.

... nothing moved. Just her imagination.

Swallowing, she focused her attention on the Captain, fingers tapping against the sides of her thighs as she waited.

Waiting. So much waiting.

The anticipation was agonizing, though as much as she wanted to pace and fidget, she stood completely still.

And waited.
