Mathiu ambled towards the captain, carrying his pole and box. He gave a wave as he approached and quickly took a seat. "I hope this is all right. I like this spot...it's quite and shaded this time of day."

She smiled. "Looks great. And a heckuva lot better fer my backside." And with that, she sat down on a soft spot on the ground, reaching for hooks and lures and the like, kept in various pouches tucked under her sash.

"So what kinda stuff didja wanna talk about?"

He took a long breath and cast his rod, smiling at the simplicity of it all. "I despise war, Captain. I've distanced myself from conflict for years and in that time I've had a chance to reflect. I think the hatred different people have comes only from not understand others. That, and well, the ability of their governments to manipulate their emotions for no reason other than greed."

She followed suit when she was ready, casting out her own line. "I hear ya about war. There's a reason I went out to sea after I was in one. Well, there were a lotta reasons fer that, but still." She shook her head. "I appreciate the notion. I think sometimes, people don't WANNA understand other people. I don't know why, it's like they build a wall outta... I don't know." She shook her head, not quite able to wrestle with the complexity of the idea banging about in her mind.

"Well, ya wanted to talk about other people. An... the people I come from, they kinda did start off by wantin' to separate themselves from everybody else. But it was in part to avoid all the senatorial bickerin' in Falena, be separate from the politics. Queen owns all the land in Falena. So folks built a town straight on the Feitas, where technically, there's no land to tax, nothin' to owe to the Queen or the nobles fightin' over everythin'." Pauses as she shifts to sit more comfortably, and enjoy the view from the particular spot where they were sitting.
