Wow! This is big news. (The artist isn't your daughter is it?? She's pretty amazing.)
These days, self-publishing is almost a "why not" endeavor. The cost is minimal, it gets your book out there in a real format to share with others, and with venues like Amazon etc. carrying it, how can you go wrong!?
Any thoughts as to which self-publishing venue you'll use?
No, it's not A--I did ask her, but she really didn't want to do it. I found a professional freelancer over the web who had the style I wanted. Once we sign a contract, I'll publish links to her work.
I've found someone to do the book design, but I still need an editor.
Do you know anyone? (not hinting here, unless you want to be paid for it. Even if this is vanity, it will be professional-grade vanity.)
I can see where it might be squicky for A to do the cover for you. Probably better to keep it out of the fam, huh.
Hmmm...depending upon when you wanted this done, I could feasibly edit for you. I have two (and maybe three!) jobs coming up between now and the end of next year, as well as my own, so I might be too swamped.
If you want, I could put out the call on my LJ. I have a lot of potential editors on there. Oh! And Linda Daly! (ljdaly on Livejournal) does this sort of thing for a living. You might want to contact her.
Self-publishing can definitely work. It's also not a small undertaking. Have you checked out the self-publishing forums on Absolute Write? There's probably some good advice there, and a good variety of opinions.
It's going to be a project with a steep learning curve. You don't have to be a Cassandra to see that. But I've conquered woodworking (partially) and scuba diving, now it's time for something with potential for massive humiliation !

Anyway, yes please, post a call for a freelance copy editor on your LJ. It would be for light copy editing, and my budget isn't huge.
I looked at Linda's LJ, and she hasn't posted for a while. If you want to forward this to her, please do.
Oh, and I'm going to recertify as an open water scuba diver. That, and needing new gutters, is why the budget isn't large ;)
