We went to Scotland last weekend and it was lovely. While the South East was on flod alert we had baking sunshine right until the train back got to Cambridgeshire. Neil and Laura are now in a stunning big flat, of which I am a bit jealous. Ah, Threads. One of the things that gave us constant nightmares about nuclear war when we were kids.

Threads is maybe the most harrowing, humourless and hopeless films ever made. After the graphic slow and painful death from radiation sickness, some of the cast eat a dead sheep. There's an American version (not a remake)called The Day After, which is very similar, almost as harrowing and well worth seeing - even if it's not quite as well directed or, well, British.
While I'm on the subject of bleak nuclear war films, I watched Fail Safe the other day. It's basically a straight version of Dr Strangelove but I can def recommend it. Best film I've seen in months.

Hopefully see you on Saturday for Vichy gig.
