This is a self-indulgent post that I'm just writing for myself, and anyone who might have recently been sectioned. I enjoyed Momus and Dickon's recent posts where they sifted through their back catalogues, track-by-track, and recorded their impressions. It was a good read; looking back with hindsight, noting the differences between your younger ( Read more... )

Yo Mo.

I did foist an early demo upon you when you played Whitechapel Art Gallery, in between gushing about how much I like your stuff.

By the way, the full quote about you in the Haines autobiography was "Great Scottish songwriter Momus said I was the Adolf Hitler of Britpop. If anyone, surely Damon Albarn was Hitler and I was Albert Speer". He also reminisces about hanging out with you when Baader Meinhof supported John Cale in Paris.

Gosh, I don't remember calling him the Adolf Hitler of Britpop! But I do remember hanging out with him in Paris. "Meet me at the airport!"

It's probably not the cool choice, but I've always loved Secretarial Elite. Not so much the cute riff - which is somehow the perfect match to the subject matter - but just how your voice perfectly matches the sneer of the people who are the song's subject matter. Just listened to it now at 4am, very quietly, grinning like an idiot.
