Ion is standing the in the rain. It's a gentle shower, and it falls so calmly that Ion feels compelled to close his eyes and tilt his face up to the sky. But... wait. Now that he's looking at it, the rain seems to be a little off somehow ( Read more... )

Yes; they're herbivores that are considered sacred by the Order of Lorelei.

... Order of-

[Oh, so it's Ion, huh. She thought she felt something very familiar with that voice in the broadcast, though she couldn't place it really. Cue dialing, and now, this. A part of her really wants to ask about their appearance - but that's just like an admittance of her blindness, really.]

That's pretty interesting. What exactly did they do to get that sacred animal status?

I'm... not exactly sure, to be honest. There's a story about how the Order's founder made a pact with them, but I doubt you could take it at face value.

So a founding myth of a sort, huh. Well, don't myths usually have that grain of truth in them? It's gotta have some kind of significance, even if it's just a coincidence at the time, or something.

But what do you mean by 'pact'? I don't think I've ever heard of someone doing something like that before.

Basically, the cheagles agreed to friendship with the Order and were given sacred status as protection. They're quite rare animals, so it's certainly not a bad thing that they're protected.

Ah, and they were also given possession of an object called the Sorcerer's Ring, which imbues them with some extra abilities, including human speech.

... So talking animals. Huh. That's pretty hard to believe, if you ask me, but since it's you, I think the information's pretty accurate.

But a 'Sorcerer's Ring'?

... Funny you should say that. I mean, back in my world, we had those things too, but granting speech to animals isn't one of its capabilities.

Only the one holding the Sorcerer's Ring is able to talk, though. It's not as though there's a whole colony of little animals out there speaking the fonic language.

It also amplifies the fonic power of the user.

...You had something similar? That's peculiar. What exactly did it do?

... A whole colony of...

[For some reason, she just found that really, really funny. So she snorts a little. Back on topic~]

Well, it's this little ring thing that's capable of shotting 'Aer' at blastia - that's our brand of technology, by the way, if I haven't explained already -- thus charging them up, I guess I can explain it like that. But it's more of a status symbol than anything else. Only the top researchers get one, since there's only so few of them that we've managed to excavate.

How strange. I had no idea our worlds had so many basic ideas in common.

What is blastia used for?

... That is strange, isn't it. It makes me wonder if some things are just that universal.

Blastia? Anything you can imagine. Spells, moving things, floating, barriers, the rule of thumb is if you can imagine it, and you can formulate a mathematic equation from the known variable, then you can do it. I don't think you'd be all that interested in the technical explanation, really, but... if you'd like, I can probably show you how it works? Seeing is better than me just ranting off technical terms anyway.

They sound quite versatile. I'm sure people must find a lot of use for them.

Would you? I'd like that. I find your technical talks interesting, though I'm afraid they would probably just go right over my head.

Yeah, they do. Everyday life would be kinda hard without blastia, really, considering our monster infestation problem.

I would. I mean, I'm the one who brought it up, right? I wouldn't say anything that I don't mean -- so you can be sure I'll give you a demonstration. Just... it's just going to have to wait a little, you know?

That's fine with me. Just tell me when it's alright for you, okay?

All right. You'd better be ready when I'm ready, okay? Because I'm not going to wait for you otherwise.

I'll see you later?

That's fine.

And you will.
