Books

May has been a crazy month. I think I've only read two books since my last entry, but to be honest I'm not sure.

I read a condensed version of "Nop's Trials" by Donald McCaig from my grandparents' (♥) Readers' Digest years and years ago. I happened to see that same volume of condensed books on sale, but then realized I should probably read the complete version. So I did! I think some of the writing is faulty (he switches tenses a lot! so distracting!). I did enjoy the story overall, but probably nostalgia had a lot to do with it. There's a bit too much of name-dropping (real sheepdog handlers) that didn't mean anything to me. There are some good bits of writing, but those are few and far in between.

I then read the sequel, "Nop's Hope". This was better. The character's journey this time around was more interesting, and while there seemed to be some contrived plot points, I enjoyed it much more. There are some unexplained parts, but I think it probably works better that way, surprisingly, since I tend to like closure more often than not. Again, probably not something I would have picked up on my own, but better than the previous book.
