Obligatory June post!

Mãn by Kim Thúy was good. It's very sparse, but the imagery is lovely. It's a very short book, and fragmented more than anything, but I think it works that way. Probably if it were written in longer prose, it would end up contrived. But as it is, it tells a story beautifully. Also, fooooood!

Finally finished David Suzuki's autobiography, Metamorphosis. I think the ending was a bit of a let down, just because it was more his essays than anything else. But the beginning I enjoyed. His writing is a bit shaky at times, but overall I thought it was a good read and a good insight into his life and career in science.

I'm reading Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. It was tough to get into a first. Both the characters are unlikeable, and the prose wasn't very good. But now that the plot is moving along, it's more interesting, but I guess it's saying something that the plot is more interesting than the writing? One of my coworkers mentioned it wasn't written very well, and I have to say so far I agree!

Happy June! <3
