Some of my creative writing can be difficult to follow due to the expectations I have of the readers' vocabulary and cultural background. It is regrettable; when I write something I do not intend my style to be an impediment to meaning, but rather a tool for packing it more densely. I feel especially bad when I have written something for someone

I think you described very well the "lack of feel" for a foreign language, both vocabular and ideic (am I saying anything wrong?). I mean I'm playful in all my languages, but there's a special over-the-top, it's-not-really-my-responsibility-if-what-I-say-sounds-audacious feature to my English.

But then, I think I have an unnatural affection for footnotes.

This guy's use of tangents, visual supports, nested parentheses, and footnotes (and sometimes nested parenthetical footnotes) and sheer utter love of learning and general geekery makes me think of you.
