Knowing me, I'd have probably both side-swiped the mailbox and run over the kid's ball, leaving a crying child with a flat ball in my wake.

Something about car-people lets them use strength far beyond normal capabilities. I watched a kid pull a steel ring open, mind you it was welded shut, in no more than five minutes.
