More canon-reviewing. As before, there is no mind-shocking analysis here. It's mostly me pointing out things that I find interesting or had forgotten about.
- Usopp says right away that he's a man of many talents and it's true. He draws, sharpshoots, invents, fixes and makes up stories. He's a pretty good example of a Rennaisance man.
- I'm forever charmed that Usopp is amazed that he hit the rock on the first try that Luffy missed, despite the fact that he knows he's awesome at the slingshot. However, this probably was the first time he aimed and shot a cannon.
- Usopp: Okay, you can be the captain...for now. But if you ever show cowardice...I'll take over in a heartbeat.
Luffy: Fine with me.
YOU HEAR THAT, LUFFY? IN A HEARTBEAT. And you were fine with it. Probably because you couldn't exhibit cowardice if your life depended on it - Usopp, in the beginning, is usually the first to point out trouble. I'll be curious to see if that continues.
- The Importance Of Food In One Piece: when Sanji gets kicked through Zoro, Usopp and Nami's table on the Baratie, all three easily rescue their plates, Zoro by putting the third on one his head. Gotta remember to keep the food safe at all times.
- Naturally, Usopp takes offense when Sanji offers special food to Nami and not to Usopp. "That's discrimination! I'll sue!!" They have lawyers in One Piece? Usopp immediately volunteers Zoro to fight against Sanji when Sanji calls Usopp a mangy octopus, a trend that continues throughout the story. I mean, the volunteering Zoro to fight his battles, not Sanji calling Usopp a mangy octopus. I've yet to volunteer Zoro to fight Usopp's battles in RP, I need to remember to do so at some point.
- For all his desire to become a Brave Pirate of the Sea, Usopp is quick to say that they don't need to go to the Grand Line at all.
- Usopp doesn't know who Mihawk is initially. You'd think that since Mihawk is a Warlord that he would since Usopp shows that he knows about them later in the series. Hmmmmm, maybe Mihawk just tends to keep a lower profile than the others or is less known?
- As expected, Usopp doesn't seem to have any medical training besides what comes from common sense. When Zoro gets gutted by Mihawk, he grabs some salve to put on him. When Luffy asks Usopp if Zoro's okay, Usopp says he's not okay, alive but unconscious. Of course, immediately after that, Zoro points his sword at the sky and makes his declaration so I guess Usopp was dead wrong about the unconscious bit. But Zoro tends to defy medical reason so we can't judge Usopp too harshly.
- More medical training knowledge: Johnny and Usopp tie Zoro up to get him to stop exerting himself and aggravating his injury. Oh Johnny. Oh Usopp.
- So Johnny and Usopp immediately abandon Zoro in a small boat to the merman, and Zoro's still tied up. Talk about leaving someone high and dry. I find this interesting because I don't know quite how to take it. Sure, they've just started their adventures together but it still seems like a callous thing to do, even though Zoro can usually take care of himself in all situations.
- Usopp's proud of his fast speed. When he runs away from the merman, he shouts, "Ahahahahaha! You can't catch me! I'm very good at making a fast exit! If you dare, try and catch me!" Gotta remember that.
- ...dude. There's a kid at Cocoyashi named Sabo. Whoooooooa. Sabo's apparently not to bright because he mistakes Usopp for a merman and that's quiiiiiiite a stretch, even with Usopp's long nose.
- Interestingly enough, Usopp stands his ground to protect Sabo and Nojiko, two people he doesn't know at all. At this point, I'd say that if he thinks someone is weaker than him, he'll man up and defend.
- "You seem like a good person, even though you've got tattoos." Ahahahaha, what what what? Usopp doesn't seem to have this issue against tattoos when meeting Ace...but then again, Nami's got her tattoo. I've noticed before that Usopp's quick to buy into One Piece stereotypes or be afraid of someone who looks scary but he's also quick to get over it.
- Usopp is also extremely quick to turn against Nami when he thinks she only helped him on Syrup because of the money. He's seriously peeved. Also, I find it hilarious that Usopp is all, "I've gotta help a friend who's in trouble," when HE was the one who got Zoro in the trouble in the first place! I think it's clear that Usopp's a huge hypocrite at times.
- "Everyone around the world is afraid of me and calls me 'Evil Usopp from Hell.' If you go back to your place, I'll forgive you. I also have more than 8000 crewman with me." Nice try, Usopp. I like how you remember to tack on your non-existent crew at the end.
- "Luffy absolutely trusts you even now! But you are so low to trick him with that beautiful face of yours!!" Aaaaah, there're the hormones.
- Usopp also gets furious when people call him stupid. I feel vindicated! I can continue to have him be all angry when campers call him stupid!
