I'm sorry Sam. I kind of hate the holiday myself. I used to want my dad to just know me. Not the person I was at nine, or the idea of me, but me. He never quite got it. The last time he was was right before I graduated high school. He wanted to come. So I could learn about his life, meet his new wife. I finally called him back. Forget it. He had already forfeited me a long time ago.
But I relate to you. No matter how old we are we're always going to want someone's approval and to feel like we are making a difference some how. As much as you may want his approval, just see how important you are in the eyes of your friends and Melissa. You do matter. I think a cool thing about you is you're very empathetic. You always try to see someone's view point and you are a great listener.
Mom: "So, are you gonna call you dad?" Me: "No, but I'll tell you and nana Happy Father's Day" "Oh, well..." "What?" "Don't you feel a little guilty, he's made an effort to talk to you, and you never return the favour." "I refuse to be the victim." "Good."
