Bad Old Days

Dec 21, 2004 09:55

Phew. It's been ages since I've had chance to update this- it's been an odd few weeks. Pretty much everything that's happened to me in these weeks has been a bit grown up, and I really don't like it ( Read more... )

Hang on. You're getting all mature yet your first wisdom tooth is only just coming in? I got mine at 16! I must be ancient. Actually that would explain the premature middle age, sitting on the sofa watching telly with a blanket, early nights...

Hmm, maybe Tamu's right that I'm a late developer. At least it gave me a few more years of silliness.

Gave? Gave? That's not the sort of talk I'd expect from someone who can still talk about wellies. Tut. Go on. Off you go and get over-excited about something completely pointless. Go on. Be off with you lad.

*puts on IT security hat* Have they not given thought to disaster recovery and business continuity? Backups of IT systems would mean you could recover that data and not have to do all the work again.

Hmm, getting old eh?

What a bunch of boring old farts that lot sound. I have a mortgage, and a pension, and I can talk about wellies with the best of them. It's London does that to you I reckon.

And I'm with Sarah on the Wisdom teeth thing. Had all of mine since I was 18. Clearly a late developer

Don't get me started on the backups. We back up on to tape every night, but a comedy of errors meant we lost far more days than we should have:

Boss made the cock up on Friday afternoon- Fridays' work lost, and we had to revert to Thursday's back up.
But Tina had forgotten to put a tape in on Thursday, so we couldn't do that (cue tears from her).
Boss put Wednesdays tape in to restore, but as soon as he did the server tried to back up Thursday's work. Upshot: Wednesday's backup lost.
Tried to restore Tuesday's: no good. Boss had left his PC on that night, so the data hadn't been saved.
So we ended up going back to Monday's data. Boo.

Bloody hell, your backup procedures need to be reviewed and pronto mate. There should be daily checks to confirm that backups have completed successfully first thing in the morning, and if they haven't then it is still possible to perform a backup during the workingn day, it just makes things slow.

I'd get in some nice people that know about backups to look at these things shrapish if I were you

It's never caused such a problem before- any previous backups we've had to restore to have just gone to the previous day. Like I said, it's only because of the comedy of errors that we had so much trouble this time.

The procedure has been reviewed slightly though, and now I've got the responsibility of overseeing all the backups. This is mainly because Tina refuses to do it because of the problems she's caused. Tsk. Could I ever get away with refusing work? Could I bollocks.

Smoking cigars doesn't make you old, wel at least I hope not. I have gotten into the habit of having one whilst out on Wednesday nights.

Are you sure you don't smoke them to look a bit older?

In honesty, I quite like the idea of smoking cigars- I always get tempted to buy one when I'm out but don't go through with it. But that's the only mature thing I'm gonna do.

Talk about wellies and imaginary earrings, I like those sort of conversations. I've got a pension and do you ever hear me talking about it? No! Boring people the lot of them, don't go there again!

I don't have any wisdom teeth, hehe!

I think it would be overhasty to avoid London because of this single group of people. But I might do it anyway- best to be on the safe side.

No wisdom teeth? What does that say about you? ;)
