I read it. It was ok.
I was bored by it, it had its moments though.

after finishing it, i agree wholeheartedly. the book was funny, but lackedx oomph at times. it seemed a coupland carbon copy. i've yet to read a book by a "Gen X" author that I really think is brilliant, though Coupland (and Eggers) are good (but not great).

yes, agreed. i was disappointed, doesn't mean it wasn't well written, though.

Genius of Love...+ Stagger Lee
I bought AHWOSG and got about as far as you are at this posting and HATED IT.
Set book aside for 2 years.
A friend was raving about it and I told him how much I HATED IT.
Mostly for the Preface.
And he reminded me of how impatient i can be and if I HATED it so much, just to skip the preface and read the damn book; no literary laws against doing this.
And LOVED IT. And I went back and read the preface and LOVED IT. I am afraid to read any thing else by him in case it's not as good.
Have read some chapters of what he's doing on salon.com
trying to catch up with his work @ McSweeny's too.
Also like Sarah Vowell and Ken Kesey... reading Sometimes a Great notion for the umteenth time.
Leland's character is lost intellectual kid with a certain realtion to D.Eggers in AHWOSG
