It's over, huh? Good. I need... [He trails off, perhaps unsure what he needs. A drink? A friend? A good night's sleep? A bullet to the head?]

...to forget all that. Somehow.

They always know just what buttons to push, don't they?

[Jack sighs and sets the journal aside, intending to switch it off. Before he does, however, one might hear ( Read more... )

[There's a small laugh at that.] I've been better. Then again, I've been worse, too.

I guess the answer is, 'I'll be all right.'

...that's what makes them borderline brilliant though, wouldn't you say? Not that I'm encouraging it by any means.

Oh yes, I won't deny that. Their methods of mental torture are... pretty effective, actually. They either have a way of reading our minds or simply turning our own fears against us.

Or both, really. Considering the things they tend to do to those who find themselves kidnapped though I'd wager it's more toward the latter. It might be best for everyone to permanently erase the last week from memory.

Mm. I've only been their guest once and I don't look forward to it happening again.

It would be nice if that were possible, right? I don't think I can forget it that easily, though.

[mutters] You and everyone else.

[But that sounds a little callous, so he follows up after a moment, wryly]

And you can't ever say they're not good at their jobs.

I know, I know. Didn't expect I was the only one to come out of this with some... bad memories. And yeah, they are good at what they do to us. Probably deserve a raise after this week.

[A pause, then...] Meet me at the bar?

[Oh yes, that'd be perfect - getting paid for torturing a village full of prisoners. Sanji something growls under his breath.

But... the promise of alcohol.]

Alright. Have your damn hypervodka ready.

Will do. See you there.

[Jack will be waiting for him at a table in the bar, a bottle and two small glasses ready.]

It certainly seems that way.

I'd really like to know how they do it. They must have some sort of telepathic ability, to be able to get so deep into our fears.

It wouldn't surprise me to hear they had that card in their hand. They're certainly cruel enough for it.

It's either that or some technology beyond our understanding, to be able to turn our fears and memories against us. But yes, their cruelty is quite... extensive.

They do. How they do is still uncertain.

I wonder if they have telepathic abilities... or perhaps some device that manages to turn our own minds against us.

Neither one would be surprising. I'd lean towards the first, but given their ability to drag us all from different universes... the latter may be more understandable.

I wouldn't be shocked by either one, but it does seem like they're more scientific in their methods. It is a powerful weapon, whether it be something natural to them or something they've created, though.

...I've seen you around, but I don't think we've talked before. Captain Jack Harkness, and you are?
