Fortunately, Dick was home and wasn't asleep or anything - surprise surprise - and after the breach had ended, had just decided to flop down on his couch and try reading for a while. So, at the knock on the door, he tossed aside the book he'd been thumbing through and got up to answer the door, wondering if it was Tim or someone wanting to talk about the breach. It had been a fairly lowkey one, all things considered - although he probably needed to double check his inmate wasn't running around with his security blanket for real now, because he wasn't quite sure how he could get him away from the mask now if he wanted to - but that could wait for right now
( ... )
"Yeah, of course," he said, stepping out of the way and slowly starting to feel the surprise burn off to be replaced by a lot more holy shit you had better not have died.
He might've died a little bit. Jim didn't say anything until he was in the room and sitting down. Oh yeah, sitting down was nice. "Yeah, I'm just... you know."
[Well, by the time she gets from the CES (how had she wound up in the CES) down to Kirk's cabin he's gone, but that's fine, she's not going to go hunting him down. Instead she just lets herself in and drafts a calculatedly neutral network post while waiting angrily on his couch. :|]
So McCoy kind of had a feeling Jim was back after that whole weird breach thing, so after the initial shock of being back had worn off, and he really sat down and thought about what had happened, he'd immediately left his room to try and find Kirk.
But honestly? He really didn't want to find him. There was only one reason why Jim would be back, and while he did really miss him, he didn't want him to be here. He shouldn't have to deal with something McCoy hadn't even really had a chance to fix yet, and no one should be stuck here against their will, without needing to be redeemed just because the Admiral had a bad sense of humor.
Jim was back. And maybe avoiding him and his room a little bit. So the best way to do that... was to wander around the hallways, Aristotle trailing behind. Fucking Barge. And fucking Bones being right about him dying.
Which meant it was really only a matter of time before they crossed paths, because the Barge wasn't really that big.
Still. When McCoy finally caught up to him, he stopped, staring, because if he'd learned one thing about the Barge, it was that it loved dicking people over. If this was just some stupid flood where for some reason, Dick had swapped places with Jim for a few days, he was going to throttle the Admiral.
Jim stopped walking immediately, staring at the ground and Aristotle for a moment before looking up at Bones. A second later, all he had to offer was a shrug, as though to say, I'm back, don't rub it in and don't ask me why.

Well just that's going to scare the shit out of him when he gets back and if he jumps a little when he sees her on his couch, then so be it.
"... miss me?"
