Since the theme of OraCon (a local tabletop gaming convention) is "Race & Accessibility", I came up with a vague game idea and I'm not sure if it's racist or not ( Read more... )

The problem with it being racist is that it's a game of privilege. You *could* win by making things fair for everyone, but it's just so darned easy to win when you just screw over everyone that's not the same color as you. The only cards that would create a real shift of power would be "Revolution" and/or "Civil War" and/or "Coup" which would all result in what equates to mass genocide.

I know, right? Like, my thought process had been "I want to make a game that demonstrates the effects of privilege", but the more I worked on it the more it became apparent that the only way to win the game would be either through oppression or revolution, and then I realized that each player would have a different color of tokens, and it just felt kind of racist...
