I hate debates about Canadian culture. They're so depressing. So many naive artists try to create things to encompass the entire country, and we get yet another song/poem/painting of trees in fall and a lake, or snow with a pink sky. They need to grow up and remember that we're huge, so we need to appreciate that there are several area-specific chunks. Great Big Sea knows that. So did Stan Rogers.
That was a very good dinner (and Dad and I keep adding things to the soup and having it for dinner - sort of like stone soup) and you are welcome to host dinner parties at my house any time you guys would like. Jess is right about the CanCon thing - the place is too big for a single concept to cover but I think that your idea of using 'Culture Cringe' as your point to argue is a good one.
