I still tend to post my blogs exclusively on Myspace, but here's one of my recent ones. I took a trip to Atlanta, Georgia and it was awesome.
My flight from Minneapolis, MN to Atlanta, GA left at 6:30 AM which meant a 3 hour drive to Minneapolis first so there was no sleeping before my flight. As I chose the cheapest airline as opposed to the best, my flight was not exactly comfortable either. Small seats, completely full plane, and no Dr Pepper made for a rather unhappy me. However, this was tempered by 2 things-- as I took my seat and plugged my headphones into the airline's XM radio, the very first song I heard was "High of 75" and I had a window seat which meant a breathtaking view of the country from 39,000 feet up which I never bore of.
After landing in Atlanta, Melissa Dilley (my previously mentioned friend who lives in Nashville now) was there to pick me up...but neither of us knew our way around the airport so it took a few phone calls and text messages to find one another.
Once we did we drove to the venue, parked, and found Jon who we chatted with for a bit before going to get ready for the show. Then it was to the hotel for check in. ...well, almost. I knew my hotel was just down the street from the venue but there were 2 hotels down the street. We went to the Marriott thinking that's where my reservations were only to find out we were supposed to be across the street at the Hampton. ...woops.
Our room wasn't quite ready so we went to eat jumbo dogs in the Atlanta Olympic park where some adorable kids were playing in the Olympic Rings Fountain.
We also saw some interesting...art in downtown Atlanta.
The show was awesome.
After the show, our parking was set to expire at 5 am and not wanting to wake up at that time and renew our parking, Mel and I decided to try to find a new place to park for the night. I hadn't slept in nearly 35 hours and was not in the best of moods, a temperament not aided by the fact that we seemed to continually be ending up in shady, dark parts of town and every parking ramp we found was closed. We finally gave up and parked in the hotel's lot which set us back a lovely $18 for a mere 10 hours of parking. I was not a happy camper, but I was so tired I didn't have much time to be angry.
About 30 seconds after my head hit the pillow of a stunningly comfortable king sized bed I was absolutely 100% dead the the conscious world. The next morning Mel brought me up a plate of delicious breakfast, I showered, we checked out and it was off to Underground Atlanta for some shopping and sight-seeing.
Underground Atlanta is what used to be the streets of Atlanta. The current street level is actually built on top of the old streets and shops and what-not.
Anyway, Underground Atlanta is a major tourist attraction and the shopping was pretty sweet, and when I found a certain bag at a certain store I just about died.
Yes that is a guitar shaped bag and when I saw it I had to have it. ...well, not that one because that bag was a special Elvis guitar bag and cost $60 but I had to have this one for $40-
It's awesome and I love it more than any person should love a bag and I'm totally going to have RK sign it at Sonshine.
Anyway-- here's some more pictures of the sights Mel and I saw.
We took a lot of sights in- the Capitol building, the CNN building, Underground Atlanta, and we also decided to put a couple psychics to the test. I got 2 readings from 2 different psychics (one in Underground Atlanta and one in the park outside).
According to psychic A (a thoroughly entertaining dude) I'm going to live to my 90s, get married when I'm 35 to someone I'll meet in the Peace Corps, have 2 kids (1 boy, 1 girl), I have a dirty mind, I'm a creative, open person, I have little patience for adults but lots for kids, I will have a major career change and I'll one day make a ton of money designing skateboards and snowboards, I'm going on a long trip in the near future, and my ex boyfriend is a total schmuck.
According to psychic Number 2, I'm taking a long trip this year either with my mother or a new love, I'm leaving my job, some conflicts with close friends are going to be solved very soon, I'm a creative, outgoing person.
This expereince has only furthered my belief that divination is (in the words of Penn and Teller) bullshit and Tarot cards are not a pathway to the spirit world but a parlor card game invented in the Victorian Era as a means for upper class white people to entertain themselves.
Mel and I also met several homeless people, happened across a few prostitutes (thanks to Mel's habit of driving us into an Atlanta ghetto every time we got into the car), took a historic tour of downtown Atlanta, visited our own version of Woodland Forest (actually Grant Park), ate at Wendy's in honor of Matt Thiessen, and then I flew back to Minneapolis- again uncomfortably though once again, as soon as I plugged in my headphones, what do I hear right away but a RK song, "Forgiven" this time.
It was an AMAZING trip, I had a blast, and I will definitely make another big trip like this for the next tour because it was so worth it.
