I think degeneration is the better word to describe it. The language has become less complex, and more and more arbitrary in it's rules. Most people today don't even know the difference between 'who' and 'whom.'

Haha. wow, it's been over a year since I posted this. Except now, I'm taking Latin. It would be so much easier to learn Latin if these rules still existed.
