Today during the Red Sox game Zig, Will and I sat in the living room discussing the upcoming election. We had the voting guides open and passed my laptop around to look at various voter information sites. It honestly wouldn't be that bad of a law if there were some escrow type system to protect the data from abuse. Require a court order to get at your DNA and stuff.

To be completely honest, the government has my DNA, dental records, and fingerprints on file. I committed no crime. But they are there in the databases to aid in an investigation. All I did was enlist.

I read a good chunk of the text of Prop 69 and now don't feel as absolutely scared of it as before. I believe that there are still problems, though, with how the information would be protected and used.

The section of the text which deals with the uses of the information states that it is in violation of that section to use the DNA evidence "for other than than criminal identification or exclusion purposes, or for other than the identification of missing persons." Anyone in violation would receive a jail or prison sentence. It seems pretty clear, but I feel that there could be circumstances when some sort of genetic profiling could be interpreted as using the DNA for criminal exclusion ( ... )
