Ability to Delude Self Not Limited To Right-Wing Headcases

Feb 03, 2004 14:24

Was listening to the local right-wing lunatic on the radio this morning. Today he was rabbiting on about the new Opposition Leader and his intention to sell Kirribilli House. This House is the most expensive House in Australia, overlooking the Harbour Bridge and Opera House, and is generally used by the Prime Minister to entertain foreign female ( Read more... )

As a right wing headcase :p or more correctly someone who's interests are better represented by the right wing aspect of parliament I'll surprise everyone and say I agree with you because your logic is utterly fool proof in every way.

I do however wonder whether Mr Latham would like to sell the place if he did get into power ;)

Don't get the wrong idea - this wasn't a scathing attack on right-wing headcases, it was a scathing attack on more or less everybody. I just used that example because it's the one that stuck in my head this morning.

I guarantee you he won't sell it.

Every time I listen to radio shows like that, I wonder if we should make passing intelligence tests madatory to register to vote. Someday maybe we'll do that before we give out driver's licenses, too.

Intelligent People Aren't Immune captainnick February 2 2004, 21:38:43 UTC
Intelligence tests won't solve anything. Especially since intelligent people aren't smart enough to not listen to stupid people who don't know what intelligence is and consequently muddle intelligent people's views as to what intelligence is in order to make themselves appear more intelligent. With me?

Besides, smart people can be arrogant stubborn jerks. Just look at me.

Umm....

No. No, you lost me. ???

Must be some kind of hemispheric dimensional thing. I know lots of intelligent people. Only a few of them are actually arrogant. Come to think of it, they are mostly politically active types.

Ohhhhhh.......

I think I get it.

The first part of my post was referring to the people who dare question the authority of the IQ test. These people invariably do badly. Compared to people like me, who defend the tests and coincidentally score really well in them.

Another point I may have made is that intelligence is only one trait, like any other personality flaw, and consequently smart people can still be jerks.

Eek, sell Kirribilli? Bugger me, thats going to be the day...

I like Latham. But i think thats only because he is a mumma's boy, and wasnt brought up on that upper-class boys school fodder like the current fuckwits in power *cough*Howard*cough*.

I like your theory. I do indeed. A question though: was i hallucinating when i heard on the news update that they are investigating why Australia sent forces to the war in Iraq? That would be kickarse, but its not like they can do too much after it has all be done. If that makes sense.

Latham Kicks Ass captainnick February 2 2004, 21:55:50 UTC
Latham kicks ass. Not because he's made all these promises, but because he publicly referred to Howard and Bush as bumchums. My god, I want this guy to rule our country.

I didn't hear anything about any investigation this morning, I'll check my usual news sources and get back to you.

Bumchums? rotfl
I'm still wondering who the poor ******* is that's going to take the fall for the "intelligence failure" that was the basis for this war in Iraq. Even my brother, the fundamentalist christian Rush Limbaugh fan, (don't even ask), is beginning to ask questions.

The best way to rally the people to your cause is to make them think the enemy is a threat to them.

I'm sure there's a fall guy already lined up to shoulder responsibility. Leaders aren't stupid, they merely act that way to get people to underestimate them.

I never read him actually saying that, it's just the impression I got from listening to Jones go on and on about Latham's "shameful, blistering attack". I think Mr Latham critisised Bush, which, to Jones, is enough to constitute an attack.

I've tried searching for what exactly Latham said but I haven't found any transcripts; all I could make out was that he doesn't like Bush much, and he said so. Which, whilst not as colourful as my version, is still worth something in my books.
