you have no right to privacy, like many other things (healthcare, abortion, social security) a right to privacy is simply not in the constitution.
this just adds more proof that the IRS is the second biggest mistake ever made by the government and should be done away with immediately replaced by a flat tax that would betray no useful information to anyone snooping into flat tax records.
but seriously whatever happened to small government republicans? do they exist any more?
i think previous to the recent election there were as many small government democrats as republicans, but of course all those small government democrats were challenege and defeated in primaries by big government democrats who then lost to big government republicans.
I'm not even surprised anymore. They could be like: "Oh, here's a bill that lets us legally kill black people" and I'd just be like: "Yeah fuck you whatever I'm moving back to Europe."
About the taxes, I know in Italy there is no income tax, period. So if you don't spend any money you don't pay any taxes. Of course, this is all made up with taxes all over the place, TV Tax, Refrigerator Tax, etc. I don't know if this is a National Sales Tax or what. It seems to work for them, though. Their unemployment rate is at 9% (I think, and it's much worse in the south) but they are one of the 5 most industrialized countries in the world. You would think that rich people would pay more, though, because they have to spend so much damn money to make all that damn money, no?
Italy, like most of Europe, has VAT, which is an extremely high sales tax.
And the only reason it works is because it's complimented by a huge welfare state.
Without that, the problems inherent in Sales Taxes as the only means of taxation would come screaming to the fore.
Thing is, while yes, Rich people would pay more in theory, because they have more money to spend, and buy more expensive things, in reality, they would pay less, as a percentage of their income.
Sales Taxes are referred to as Regressive taxes because poor people pay out the largest percentage of their income in taxes. Poor People buy neccesities. They don't spend much money on luxury goods, and they certainly can't afford to save anything. Therefore, a much larger percentage of their income would go to taxes. Wheras richfolk have discretion. Since a much smaller portion of their income is spent on things, a much smaller portion of their income goes to taxes. Which, if you ask me, pretty much defies logic.
In the interest of educating me, please tell me how the VAT works because of the huge welfare state. I'm really clueless. If you're not busy, that is. Thanks dude.
