Not sure yet exactly where. I'm flying into Heathrow, though, and I'll make my way around from there. I know I want to hit up Rome, Barcelona, and Glasgow, though. There's going to be a lot of time spent traveling, it looks like.
I'm not bringing my son, no. He's too young to enjoy any of it, and it's essentially going to be my last big independent trip on my own for a long time. I'm going right after I get out of the military, and I'm leaving Bean with my mother.
Haha, everyone always mentions Hostel when you talk about backpacking through Europe. I plan on staying in hostels, too, which makes it even funnier. :x
Join the Youth Hostel Association, so you get discounts at all YHA accredited hostels. They're perfectly safe if you're not a retard, like "You'd like to drug, rape and steal my organs? Sounds like fun! Let's do it!"
Also, join backpacking communities and get help. You can't just pack and bag and go to Europe - there's a lot of stuff you'd need to keep in mind, like rail passes and packing techniques, new languages, passports, Visas, travel, insurance, etc.
And visit www.scottevest.com and buy yourself some of their neat-o pants, shirts and jackets. They sell clothes that have millions of pockets, all with offsetting material and deep/hanging/no-bulge designs, so you can carry HEEAAPS of stuff and you don't look like you are. Seriously - absolutely required for travelling, since you DO NOT want to look like a tourist or look like you have expensive stuff on you.
