This is relatively tangential, but have you ever seen/read The Falls, but Peter Greenaway?

The "loving birds" thing reminded me of it.

I think you'd really like it. I love the book version, because you can pick it up at any time, read it for ten minutes, and put it back down without feeling like you're stopping in the middle of something but still find something gorgeous in it. You can read/watch the whole thing in fragments here (http://vue.org.uk/falls.htm) but I just enjoy turning pages.

This is great! I saw a Greenaway movie once and it reminded me of those guys in Silence of the Lambs who play beetle chess in the basement. It was the one where he holds up strips of film to the camera and talks about them (but does not SHOW the films).
