No doubt the first of many, I'm going to be tweaking the shit out of the style until I'm 100% happy with it at which point I will pitch to publishers.

OK, before you go pitching it, you'll want to clean up your text. I love your lettering, so I'm not talking about your handwriting as much as the way you've laid it out.
Get yourself an Ames Lettering Guide and use it to lay down some lines to put the text in. Slightly straighter text will improve the professional look just enough.
Then, when you put the boxes around the text, make sure that there is a consistent margin around all the sides (typically one character width).
Doing these two things will have a similar effect to putting your artwork in a frame or a book. It'll suddenly make everything you've done look more deliberate. It's kind of exciting to see, actually!

Now that you mention it, crap, it's true hahaha
And to be clear I am nowhere near ready to pitch haha it's in the works as a long-term plan.
