It was a huge knock to your confidence. It takes time to rebuild it but a slow careful rebuild lays in good solid foundations for a quiet self-assurance which makes us better people.
I couldn't agree more with what novemberbug said. Confidence is a strange thing: it takes a long time to build it, and that usually happens when you're doing something else, or at least pretending not to look at how it's growing, but it can be so easy to break.
I know no trick to speed things up. What I do know is that patience pays off, that steady, constant work helps us break patterns (interruptions are just that, not going back to where we started). It sounds to me like you have a good circle of friends, creative and supportive. I think you'll get where you want to be sooner than you expect.
