Fan-casting the DCU

Since I spend a lot of time on Polyvore these days, I made this fan-cast for a hypothetical DC movie (or series of movies) with a blended DCAU/Teen Titans Animated/pre-DCNu comics continuity. But since I don't know or care about male actors, I only did the ladies. Batman and Superman would be in their late 30s, Dick would be about 29, and Teen ( Read more... )

Can I do the boys? Mind you I wouldn't get nearly as obscure bc I am not a comics fan but I grew up on TAS so... ?

(I'm surprised Amanda Seyfried isn't on there, I had pinned her for sure as either Alice or Harley)

Also I would have cast Brooke Elliott as Ivy, but I have... I have a lot of feels about Ivy.

I was surprised I was so happy with Catwoman's casting! Also whoa that is not the backstory for Catwoman I grew up with wat.

Yeah, do the boys! I love to see other people's casting choices.

Honestly, the only thing I've seen Amanda Seyfried in is Mean Girls, and I don't remember her being anything special in that. I'm sure she's great if so many people say she is, but I don't know enough about her to cast her.

I don't know if Brooke Elliott has enough edge to play Ivy, but it would be fabulous to see her try! That woman should be getting way more work.

Is TAS the only canon you're familiar with? If you want, you can take a look at Selina's comics history here. It's long, but a fascinating read. And very image-heavy.

TAS and like, sprinklings of other stuff, bc I've picked up the odd comic here and there. Mostly I haven't liked them, except ( ... )

OH, YOU'RE BEE. Smeg, I feel stupid. I thought you had a different name over here?

So the various Jeph Loeb/Tim Sale comics...my feelings on those are ambivalent. I adore Sale's art, and when Loeb has a handle on a character he really has a handle on the character...but when he doesn't, he really doesn't. And he isn't so great at actually putting things together in a coherent and satisfying way. I feel like he's like George Lucas: a good idea man, but someone else should actually be doing the work. But his comics are definitely good for bringing in new fans.

I do think No Man's Land was some of the best stuff of the modern comics era. And it's probably what most informed my interpretation of the Scarecrow. That and Joker's Asylum and some of the DCAU comics. (You should read the DCAU comics if you haven't already! And some of Joker's Asylum, but I can't remember which issues other than Scarecrow were good.)

If you want to get into other comics, Cass Cain's Batgirl run is consistently awesome, as is Jaime Reyes's Blue ( ... )
